My scary experience

My latest scary experience is the WenChuan earthquake on May 12, 2008. Although the epicenter is far from my home, we can have an obvious feel of quake. On that afternoon, I just came to bookshop to buy some textbooks and came home by bus. When our bus came through the crossroad, I saw lots of many people come out of the shop and go to the road. At first, I thought may be there is something wrong with the construction of subway. We just kept going on our way. At this time our bus began to shake, but all our passengers thought that is the poor road; the bus driver shout to passengers that don’t shake and jump in the bus, and I looked back naturally and there is no one shaking. I saw more and more people gathered on the road. When I arrived, I knew that an earthquake was happened. When I called my family, there is no signal at all because all people were calling at the same time. We worried about aftershocks, so we prepare some food and devices. We were alert at night and couldn’t have a full sleep.
During the next few days, I learnt how terrible the earthquake was. Every day when I turned on TV and internet, I could cry. The amount of victim in this destructive earthquake is up to almost 10 thousand.

Special Food

When I lived in China, I like to eat lots of delicious and healthy food which are made by traditional Chinese cooking methods. Especially I like some special food such as soft-shelled turtle, pork rink, finless eel and frog leg.

Soft-shelled turtle is a kind of turtle which is smaller than it. When I ate soft-shelled turtle first time, I really did not know what it is. It was cooked and served in a casserole. I begun with the soup which is fresh and delicious; then, I ate a piece of meat. My parent told me that this food is very good to nourishes body. When I knew about it, I was very surprised. However, I like to eat it.

Almost every people in our country like to eat pork rink and feet. They contain lots of colloids which is good for skin health. Women like them very much. They are called beauty food.

Finless eel and frog leg are also delicious and healthy food. Finless eel looks like snake, but live in the river and belongs to the fish. We cook it by braising. For frog leg, I just ate it six years ago. After people realized that frog eat pests, we refused to buy or sell frog.

I like these delicious foods, but sometimes I feel cruel to eat them. May be I will feel better when I eat it and I do not know what it is.

My Dream Job

My major is Electrical Engineering, but if I could choose any dream job, I would like to be a military doctor. First, when I was a child, I lived with my grandparent who is also a military doctor. When I came to his department, he always works hard in treating his patients’ diseases and taking care of them. He could give patients hope to fight the disease, and help them to recover.

In addition, during the childhood, we lived in the community which has both military hospital and a military medical university. Student wearing the military uniform impressed me very much. They are looking very brightly and energetically. They will study professional medical knowledge; also, they must live in campus and conform to the army discipline. No matter they are in local hospital or battlefront, they could rescue people’s life and alleviate the suffering of patients.

Finally, I like Chinese medical science, and I think it is a healthy and safe way to cure diseases; for example, people could use diet therapy which ingredients originated from vegetables and some fruits to improve your body quality. I hope I could learn some medical science in future.

About me

My name is Sha lu. My home city is XI’AN, which is located in the center of the China. It is an ancient city which known as the restored City Wall, Terra Cotta Warrior and Horses museum, and it was the capital city of 13 different dynasties in ancient times. I went to Vancouver with my family last year, and I study English there. Here are lots of Chinese, so I don’t need to speak English too much. The weather is not too much better because it was always raining.

I need to apply the university in North America, so I came to California to improve my English skills in March. I am planning to major in Electronic Engineering. It is my first time to the U.S. When I arrived here, I was interested in the palm trees. I have never seen these high trees before.

I used to sing at the Karaoke with my friends, visit my relatives at the weekend, and go hiking with my family, but now I like to watch movies and go shopping. Recently, I like to study cooking Chinese traditional food and western cookies by checking the recipe on line. I enjoy the life and my friends here. I hope I could go to university next semester.
